As part of my stint as a tutor at Salt River High School (www.srpmic-ed.org) we developed this software that teachers could use with their students. The basic idea is the teacher composes a series matching pairs in some area they are studying such as vocabulary word + definition or math problem and answer. This software accepts the matching pairs and arranges the matches in adjacent squares. The squares can be cut apart and the challenge for the student is re-form the rectangular puzzle by correctly matching the pairs.

This software is free and donated to the public domain.
(It does require Java 1.5 or higher be installed.)

The thumbnail (can be expanded) on the left shows a US History puzzle in its solved state. The thumbnail on the right shows the same squares scrambled. The one on the right could be given to students to cut out and solve.

Many items on the puzzle are configurable from the number of squares going across and down, font, font size, and line thickness.  By default it is in English, but is capable of using other languages, though initially the only alternative we supply is German for the program display, thanks to Rob Felty.
