When repeatedly delivering washing machine graywater to one spot, care needs to be taken to prevent buildup of salts that can harm plants. Local graywater advocates recommend Oasis laundry detergent sold by bio-pac.com.  It is a little pricey at $76 for 4 gallons delivered, but is formulated to break down and be beneficial to plants. I am somewhat disappointed in the product packaging. Specifically the plastic jug seems thin and brittle. I had 3 gallons sitting next to the dryer on the floor and one just pushed on the other a bit. Being thin, the plastic dimpled inward slightly. (See photo on the right) Being brittle, it caused plastic fatigue so that after a couple months a crack formed and a gallon of the detergent drained onto the floor. Most disappointing was contacting bio-pac, they were not interested trying to fix the problem.

In central Arizona, Brad Lancaster is "Mr. Greywater" (He prefers the English spelling gray.) His website has a nice comparison of current laundry detergents. We will consult that for an alternative next time around.
